What is Optimism?
OP is the governance token of the Optimism Collective, which oversees OP Mainnet, an Ethereum layer-2 network that uses optimistic rollups to batch transactions and settle them on Ethereum. Holders vote in the Token House on upgrades, incentive programs and grants, while fees on OP Mainnet are paid in ETH rather than OP. The token launched in 2022, and the same OP Stack software powers a group of chains called the Superchain.
