Transaction hash (TxID)

Also called: TxID · TxHash · transaction ID

Definition

A transaction hash, or TxID, is the unique identifier of a blockchain transaction, which you can paste into a block explorer to see its status, amount, addresses and confirmations.

This entry is shown in English.

How Transaction hash works

Every transaction broadcast to a blockchain gets a hash, a fixed-length string calculated from the transaction data. On Ethereum it starts with 0x and has 64 hex characters after it. On Bitcoin and Tron it is a 64-character hex string.

Exchanges show the TxID in your withdrawal history once the transfer has been sent on-chain. You can paste it into an explorer for that network, such as Etherscan, Tronscan or a Bitcoin explorer, to see whether it is pending, confirmed or failed.

The TxID is the first thing support teams ask for when a deposit is missing. It proves whether the funds left the sender and which address and network they went to. It is public information and safe to share.

Example

Suppose you withdraw 0.03 BTC to a friend and the friend says nothing arrived after 20 minutes. You copy the TxID from your withdrawal history and paste it into a Bitcoin explorer. It shows the transaction in the mempool with 0 confirmations because the fee was low. An hour later, the explorer shows 3 confirmations and the receiving address matches your friend's. The coins were never lost, only waiting for a block.

Common mistakes

  • Searching a TxID in an explorer for the wrong network and concluding the transaction does not exist.
  • Treating an exchange's internal transfer ID as an on-chain TxID.
  • Assuming a missing TxID means the funds left; if the exchange has not broadcast it yet, there is no hash.

FAQ

Where do I find my transaction hash?

In your exchange's withdrawal or deposit history, or in your wallet's activity list. Tap the transaction to see or copy the TxID.

Is it safe to share a TxID?

Yes. It only points to public data already on the blockchain and cannot be used to move funds.
