What is Avalanche?

Avalanche (AVAX) is the native token of the Avalanche blockchain platform, launched in 2020 by Ava Labs. AVAX pays transaction fees, which are burned, and is staked by validators under proof of stake. Avalanche supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts on its C-Chain and lets projects launch their own custom blockchains; its maximum supply is 720 million tokens.
