Where the code goes, step by step

Bybit's own registration guide (last updated 17 August 2026) lays out the flow. The code step is easy to miss because it sits below the email field, and the guide warns that once the account exists you cannot add, modify or delete the code through the normal sign-up flow.

1. Open the sign-up page. On the website, click Sign Up in the top-right corner; in the app, tap Sign Up on the first screen. Using the link above opens the page with the code already filled in. 2. Choose your country of residence. Bybit may redirect you to a regional site or show a restricted-country notice, because it does not serve a handful of excluded jurisdictions. Pick the country you actually live in; it decides which products you see later and which identity documents are accepted. 3. Enter an email address or phone number. Bybit recommends email, because email plus Google Authenticator is required to withdraw. It suggests a long-lived provider such as Gmail, iCloud or ProtonMail. You can also sign up with Google, Apple or Telegram. Each email and phone number can be linked to only one account. 5. Finish the verification. Complete the captcha, enter the email or SMS code, then set your password. You land on the account dashboard. 6. Start identity verification. Bybit's KYC FAQ says Standard verification is mandatory for all products and services, so do it straight away (details below).

Forgot the code? The 14-day rule

Older Bybit pages still say a code can never be added after registration. The account-settings FAQ, last updated in November 2025, answers "Unfortunately, no" to that question. The newer help-centre article "How to Add and Check Registered Affiliate Code", last updated 5 June 2026, describes a way back in, with strict limits:

• Only the main account can add a code; sub-accounts cannot.
• The window is 14 days after registration. Bybit says any request after day 14 will not be accepted.
• Your account must have no existing affiliate or referral code.
• Only codes from a Bybit Affiliate (the Affiliate Program) can be added this way. Codes from ordinary users in the Referral Program are not supported.
• Market-maker and institutional accounts are excluded, and some accounts cannot join for regulatory reasons.
• Once added, the code cannot be cancelled or changed.

The steps: hover over Profile and open your Account page, go to the Account Info tab, click "Join an Affiliate's Community", enter the affiliate's invitation code and a reason, read the disclaimer, and submit. If the entry is not visible, your account does not meet the conditions above. After approval you return to Account Info, where the affiliate ID is listed if the code is public. To check which code is already on your account, open the same Account Info page.

Referral code vs affiliate code: why the difference matters

Bybit runs two separate programmes, and its affiliate FAQ (updated 19 September 2026) explains the split.

For you as the new user, the practical point is the table's third row: only an affiliate code has the 14-day fallback. If you are going to use a code at all, enter it on the sign-up page so you do not have to rely on the exception. Bybit also notes that a user who is inactive for 180 days in a row may be dropped from the affiliate relationship, which matters only to the affiliate, not to your account.

Identity verification: what you need after the code

Most of what people sign up for needs KYC. Bybit's "Benefits of Different KYC Levels" page (updated 6 October 2026) shows that without verification you cannot deposit crypto, trade spot or perpetuals, use P2P, buy crypto with a card, use Earn products or claim rewards in the Rewards Hub. Standard verification unlocks all of those.

Bybit says verification usually takes about 15 minutes but can take up to 48 hours, and only one account per person can be verified. Proof of address must be dated within the last three months. What it costs to trade after you join

Our partner feed lists Bybit's base fees as 0.10% maker and 0.10% taker on spot, and 0.02% maker and 0.055% taker on perpetuals. A referral code does not change the posted fee schedule by itself; the value of using one is that it links your account to a community from day one, and any new-user offers Bybit runs are shown in the Rewards Hub, which needs Standard KYC before you can claim. What we could not verify

Bybit does not publish one fixed new-user bonus amount on the help-centre pages we read; offers rotate in the Rewards Hub and depend on region. Bybit also does not say how long approval of a late affiliate-code request takes.

Can I add a Bybit referral code after registration? Only an affiliate code, only from the main account, only within 14 days, and only if no code is attached yet. Ordinary user referral codes cannot be added later.

Can I change my Bybit referral code? No. Bybit says a code added through the 14-day route cannot be cancelled or changed, and the sign-up guide says a code entered at registration cannot be modified or deleted.

Do I need KYC to use the code? No, the code is entered before KYC. But you need Standard KYC to deposit, trade or claim rewards.

How long does Bybit KYC take? About 15 minutes in most cases, up to 48 hours.

Can I sign up without a code? Yes. Bybit says you can leave the field blank.
