The short answer

US spot Ether ETFs had net outflows on every trading day from 29 September to 9 October 2026, nine sessions worth about $697 million, and the week of 5–9 October alone lost about $542 million, the worst week since January. BlackRock's ETHA accounted for roughly 88% of that week's redemptions. Spot Solana ETFs ended a record 14-week inflow run with a $24.8 million outflow, and spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $680 million after three positive weeks. On the derivatives side, our own data shows Binance ETH funding settling at about −0.012% twice on 11 October, so short sellers were paying longs while the ETF money left.

The numbers, fund by fund

The weekly totals below come from The Block's analysis of SoSoValue data, cross-checked against Farside Investors' daily tables. The two trackers differ by a few hundred thousand dollars because of rounding and late fund reports; we show The Block's figure and Farside's in brackets where they differ.

Three days explain most of the damage. On Tuesday 6 October, Ether funds lost $201.9 million, all of it from ETHA, on the same day ETHA's 1-for-3 reverse share split took effect. On Wednesday 7 October, Bitcoin funds lost $484.9 million in Farside's table, with IBIT down $207.7 million and Fidelity's FBTC down $105.1 million. On Thursday 8 October, FBTC lost another $197.1 million. Bitcoin funds returned to a small $21.1 million inflow on Friday 9 October; Ether funds did not, losing another $56.1 million.

The Ether streak began on 29 September, one day before Bitcoin ETFs ended a nine-day, $3.1 billion inflow run. Nine straight outflow days ties the June 17–30 run as the third-longest in the products' history; the record is 17 days between 11 May and 3 June 2026. Ether ETF net assets fell about 10% over the week to $15.71 billion, and their 2026 net inflows dropped to $931.8 million from $1.47 billion a week earlier.

What the price and our derivatives data show

Ether did not escape the selling. On Binance spot, ETH opened the week at $2,726.93 on 5 October and closed 9 October at $2,487.70, a fall of about 8.8% (our arithmetic). It traded near $2,505 on 11 October.

NexuAlpha's own feed adds the derivatives side. Binance's ETHUSDT perpetual settled funding at −0.0118% at 00:00 UTC and −0.0117% at 08:00 UTC on 11 October, after small positive prints most of the week. Negative funding means shorts pay longs, which usually happens when bearish positioning is crowded. Binance's ETH open interest fell from about $6.17 billion on 8 October to $5.78 billion on 9 October, so some leveraged exposure was closed rather than simply flipped. By 12:43 UTC on 11 October the live Binance rate had eased to about −0.0016% while OKX showed a slightly positive rate, so the pressure was fading rather than building.

For a reader, the useful link is this: ETF outflows show what slower institutional and advisory money is doing; funding shows what leveraged traders are doing. This week both pointed the same way for Ether, which is less common than it sounds.

Why the money left

The sources point to a few causes, none of them a single trigger:

  • Bitcoin's pull-back from the late-September inflow run. Bitcoin ETFs had drawn $3.1 billion over nine days before reversing; part of the Ether selling began a day earlier, which reads like portfolio rebalancing rather than an Ether-specific shock.
  • ETHA's reverse split. The fund's largest single-day outflow since 21 January landed on the split date. A split does not change the value of a holding, but it is an operational event that can prompt some holders, including model portfolios, to reset positions. This is a coincidence of timing that the data shows; the funds have not said the split caused the redemptions.
  • A weak market week. Bitcoin traded near $82,900 on 10 October, and the crypto market had a long-liquidation flush of more than $1 billion on 9 October, which we covered in today's liquidation report.

What to watch next

  • Whether the Ether streak reaches double digits. Monday 12 October's flow will either end the run or make it the second-longest on record.
  • Solana fund flows. The Solana products had a record $188.2 million inflow week only two weeks earlier. A second negative week would suggest the run has turned rather than paused.
  • Funding on the funding-rate board. If ETH funding returns to positive while ETFs keep bleeding, leveraged traders are buying the dip against the ETF flow; if both stay negative, the pressure is broad.
  • US inflation data on 14 October and the Fed meeting on 27–28 October, which have driven risk appetite across stocks and crypto this month.

How to act on this

ETF flows are a slow signal, not a timing tool, and none of this predicts the next move. 012% per eight hours a short pays and a long collects, and keep leverage low enough that a 3–5% swing does not trigger liquidation. Compare other venues on /rates.
