Spot vs futures: you're not buying the same thing
Punti chiave
Spot swaps one asset for another; a perpetual is a contract position.
Long gains if the price rises, short gains if it falls; the wrong side loses.

They both say bitcoin. Isn't it the same trade?
- Nexubo
Plain spot, with no borrowing, swaps one asset for another. The linear perpetual we cover here is a contract position that settles profit and loss as the price moves. It's not buying bitcoin you can withdraw.

Going long usually means hoping the price rises. Going short usually means hoping it falls. Get the direction wrong, and either side loses. Being able to short doesn't make it easier to make money.
- Sam
Should I level up from spot to futures?
- Nexubo
No need. Futures are a different risk structure, not a level you must reach. You can understand them and still choose not to use them.
- Narratore
Plain spot without borrowing has no margin liquidation like futures do. But the asset can still lose a lot of value. No liquidation doesn't mean your money is protected.
- Sam
No.
