Funding payment
Definition
A funding payment is the actual transfer between opposing perpetual positions at a funding settlement event.
How funding payment works
The quoted funding rate describes a pricing input; the payment is the resulting account movement. Its direction follows the settlement rate and the side held, while the position value determines the exposure to the charge.
Checking settled history helps separate funding from trading fees and floating price gains. A receiving position can still lose through adverse market movement, and an expected receipt may change when future rates change.
Example
A short perpetual earns a funding receipt, yet its holder reviews the price loss separately before judging the overall trade.
