Second HYPE wallet reportedly sold 296,705 tokens: why profit estimates differ

7 min

The short answer

A second wallet, identified as 0x648F, reportedly sold 296,705 HYPE valued at $26.72 million, according to Lookonchain monitoring cited by PANews on October 31. The report assigns that wallet an estimated $16.5 million profit. This is a new wallet observation alongside the larger 912,383 HYPE movement covered in our earlier FalconX transfer analysis. The published summaries do not let us independently reconstruct either wallet's completed sales or realized profit. PANews on the two wallets.

For a HYPE holder, the useful distinction is between the new wallet quantity and the changing interpretation of the larger movement. Keep the reported transfer value separate from profit, then compare the story with actual execution records before treating it as a completed exit. The earlier article addresses the FalconX transfer; this follow-up examines the second wallet and the mismatch between two analysts' profit estimates.

What the second wallet adds

PANews attributes the latest observations to Lookonchain. Its summary says 0x648F sold 296,705 HYPE eight hours before the observation and had bought the tokens eleven months earlier. It values the reported sale at $26.72 million and puts the profit at $16.5 million. These are the analyst's reported figures, relayed by PANews; they are not independently reconstructed account results. The latest PANews report.

The same report describes address 0x2685 as selling 912,383 HYPE worth $82.09 million six hours earlier, following purchases a month earlier. It assigns that larger position more than $10 million of profit. The shortened wallet labels identify the subjects in the report; they do not provide the complete addresses needed to reproduce an address-level query.

The second wallet matters because it extends the reported activity beyond the one large movement. It does not establish that the wallets have the same owner, coordinated their trades or used the same execution route. Neither the quantities nor the timing supplies that missing ownership evidence. A reader tracking concentration can record the two observations separately without turning them into a coordinated selling claim.

The larger wallet has two different profit estimates

An earlier PANews item attributes the 912,383 HYPE movement to on-chain analyst Yu Jin. That report describes tokens consolidated and transferred into FalconX, with a value of about $82.09 million. It says the position had been accumulated through Coinbase Prime and FalconX one to two months earlier at an average price of about $81. Its transfer-time reference price is $90, and its estimated profit is $8.03 million. PANews relaying Yu Jin's analysis.

The later Lookonchain summary calls the larger movement a sale and estimates more than $10 million of profit. The difference is material. The two reports use the same token quantity and dollar valuation, but their descriptions of the action and profit do not match. We cannot resolve the difference from these short summaries.

Do not add $8.03 million to the later estimate of more than $10 million. That would count two descriptions of the larger reported position as separate profits. Nor should a reader replace one figure with the other merely because the second headline appeared later. A revised estimate needs an explanation of what changed in the acquisition history, execution evidence or accounting basis.

The earlier report's rounded prices also cannot reproduce an exact account profit. Multiplying a rounded price difference by a token balance produces a rough calculation, while a realized result requires the actual quantities and prices of completed trades and their relevant costs. We retain $8.03 million as Yu Jin's reported estimate rather than presenting a new calculation as an audit of that wallet.

What the combined numbers actually measure

Using the latest report alone, the two token quantities sum to 1,209,088 HYPE: 296,705 plus 912,383. Its dollar values sum to $108.81 million: $26.72 million plus $82.09 million. These calculations explain the report's description of more than $100 million of HYPE activity. They inherit the source's classifications and rounded valuations. PANews figures used in the arithmetic.

The $108.81 million total measures the sum of the reported token values. It does not measure aggregate profit, exchange withdrawals or fresh cash entering the market. The report's $16.5 million profit figure belongs to the second wallet; it is a different field from that wallet's $26.72 million position value.

Even when a source labels an action a sale, the reader should preserve the source attribution until the execution can be checked. The combined value cannot tell us how many individual orders there were, whether trades happened on an order book or through another arrangement, or how the proceeds were held afterward. Those questions need transaction or account evidence beyond the summary.

There is also no basis here to connect either wallet with the separate Binance incident. A large amount, a nearby date and the same broad market are insufficient to establish a common cause. This follow-up concerns the HYPE observations and the evidence needed to interpret them.

A transfer record and a filled trade answer different questions

Hyperliquid's official documentation provides separate ways to retrieve a user's open orders and fills. Its user-fills request takes a complete address in 42-character hexadecimal format. The fills-by-time request also takes a start time and an optional end time. These documented distinctions support a practical check: a claimed completed trade should be examined using execution records, rather than inferred from an open order or an abbreviated wallet label. Hyperliquid's official information documentation.

The documentation is a source for the method, not confirmation that the reported wallets executed on Hyperliquid. We did not query a guessed full address, and the documentation does not authenticate either analyst's wallet attribution. If a movement concerns another trading venue, its corresponding execution evidence would be needed.

For someone reviewing a public wallet story, start by asking for the complete address and the transaction or execution identifiers. Match the asset and the amount, then inspect the recorded action. If the record establishes only a transfer, keep the description at transfer. If it establishes fills, check the executed quantity and price before calculating proceeds.

A profit claim needs an additional step: match the disposed tokens to supported acquisition records. A current token balance and a transfer-time valuation do not supply the full acquisition cost. The two PANews items illustrate why this matters. Their descriptions of the larger position share a quantity, but their reported acquisition period and profit estimates differ.

How to use the report when reviewing your own HYPE orders

If you hold HYPE, open your existing account's order and trade history before changing an order in response to this headline. Separate orders that remain open from fills that have already occurred. Record the amount you actually hold and the amount committed by any open orders. This is an account check, not a conclusion that either reported wallet will trade again.

In your HYPE trading screen, select the exact trading pair shown on your existing order, then open that order’s history. For an executed trade, compare its filled HYPE quantity and average execution price with the original order. For a pending order, compare the original quantity with the filled and remaining quantities, then review the limit price before changing it. The wallet reports provide no evidence about your account's execution, and the quoted wallet valuations should not be substituted for the price available to you.

Keep the spot holding separate from any derivative position when reviewing exposure. If you use the funding-rates page, read the instrument and observation time shown there. The report does not show whether either wallet held an offsetting position, so it cannot establish the owner's overall exposure from the HYPE movement alone.

For public-wallet monitoring, the whales page is a separate place to examine observations. Compare the listed address, asset and action with the source you are reading. A repeated report of the same amount should not automatically be recorded as another wallet sale. Save the original observation and add a later item only when its address or transaction evidence supports a distinct event.

Quick answers

What evidence would confirm the second wallet sale?

A complete address for 0x648F would make the second-wallet claim easier to reproduce. Transaction identifiers would let readers match the reported movement to a specific record. Execution details would answer the sale question, while supported acquisition history would make the $16.5 million estimate testable.

Why are the larger wallet profit figures different?

For the larger movement, an explanation of the difference between $8.03 million and more than $10 million would be useful. That explanation must identify the changed input. Repeating either number in another outlet would not resolve the accounting question, particularly if that outlet relies on the same analyst observation.

Can the reported intervals give an exact execution time?

The latest item uses relative times of six and eight hours. Those intervals belong to its observation, not the time this article was opened. They should not be converted into exact Singapore Time timestamps without the underlying reference time. Our review is dated October 31, SGT; no exact execution clock is established here.

Treat unexpected compensation links or direct messages separately from the wallet news. Do not enter a recovery phrase, connect a wallet or send funds because someone attaches these figures to a compensation offer.
