Sophon Sets a November 25 Withdrawal Deadline Before Its Mainnet Shuts Down: How to Get Your SOPH, ETH and USDC Out
The short answer
Sophon has told users to withdraw everything from the Sophon Chain by November 25, 2026, ahead of the shutdown of its layer-2 mainnet, and warned that assets left behind risk becoming permanently inaccessible, according to Cointelegraph's report on October 20. You move assets out through the official portal at claim.sophon.com, which also lets you claim outstanding staking and Guardian rewards. If your SOPH, ETH, USDC or any other token sits on Sophon, the job takes a few minutes now and may be impossible later. One caution: the Sophon documentation page we fetched on October 20 still said no hard shutdown date had been set, so the date comes from the team's announcement as reported, and you should confirm it on Sophon's official channels.

What was announced
Sophon launched as a zero-knowledge layer-2 network on Ethereum aimed at consumer apps such as gaming, entertainment and AI. In June 2026 its developers said that running a standalone blockchain no longer justified the cost and that they would focus on consumer finance and AI applications on Base. The announcement on Monday, October 19 turns that plan into a calendar: Cointelegraph reports that key infrastructure and related websites begin shutting down on November 25, and that users are asked to withdraw SOPH, ETH, USDC and other assets and to claim any outstanding staking or Guardian rewards before then. Assets still on the chain afterwards may not be recoverable.
It is not the only network closing. Abstract, the consumer-focused Ethereum layer-2 built by the parent company of Pudgy Penguins, announced on October 6 that it will close on December 15 after losing tens of millions of dollars. Two shutdowns in two weeks is a pattern worth noticing if you keep funds on smaller layer-2 networks.
What the Sophon documentation says to do
Sophon's own migration guide, which we read on October 20, sets out the steps and says new deposits through the canonical Ethereum-to-Sophon bridge have been disabled, while withdrawals remain open while the chain operates. The practical rules:
Article table: scroll horizontally, or focus the table area and use the arrow keys.
| What you hold | What to do |
|---|---|
| SOPH on Sophon (bridged copy) | Withdraw it to Ethereum through the canonical route at claim.sophon.com. SOPH is native to Ethereum, so there is no token swap. |
| ETH, USN, USDC or another token on Sophon | Connect the wallet at claim.sophon.com, choose Withdraw from Sophon, pick one of the routes offered through Jumper, confirm and wait for the bridge to finish. |
| Guardian NFTs, vSOPH, staked SOPH | Nothing to move: the guide says these positions are transitioned to Ethereum automatically. Still check the portal for rewards you can claim. |
| Unclaimed staking or Guardian rewards | Claim them in the portal before the chain closes. |
The guide adds several details that stop common mistakes. Sophon was removed from the LayerZero network, so LayerZero can no longer bridge SOPH to or from the chain; once SOPH is back on Ethereum you can use LayerZero from there to reach other supported chains. The final vesting unlock and node reward distribution on the Sophon Chain happened on September 29, 2026 at 00:00 GMT, and after that vesting and claims continue on Ethereum without a migration transaction. Staking is discontinued when the chain is decommissioned, and no new staking action is needed.
A safe way to do it
Shutdowns are exactly when scammers send fake "migration" links, so slow down on three points.
- Start from the official source. Type the address yourself or open it from Sophon's documentation at docs.sophon.xyz, and check Sophon's official Discord or X account for the date. The guide itself says to never trust an unsolicited claim or migration link.
- Withdraw a small test amount first. Send a little ETH or USDC through the route you chose, confirm it arrives at the destination address, then move the rest. Bridging costs a fee, so it is worth routing larger balances in one transaction rather than many small ones.
- Check the token address. The documentation lists the official SOPH contract addresses. If a wallet shows a different contract for "SOPH", do not interact with it.
Leave time for the unexpected. A bridge route can be congested or temporarily unavailable, and a deadline that falls on a weekday is easier to meet than one discovered on the last evening. Doing it this week costs nothing extra.
Why layer-2 shutdowns keep happening
Running a chain is expensive: validators, sequencers, data availability, bridges and support. A consumer-app chain needs a lot of daily users to pay for itself, and when usage is thin the team moves its products to a bigger network. Sophon's move to Base follows that logic, and so does Abstract's closure. For users the lesson is not that smaller networks are scams. It is that money kept on a small chain depends on that team continuing to run it, so keep only what you actively use there and hold the rest on Ethereum or an exchange you trust.
How this fits your wallet habits
If you only use Sophon for a game or an app and have a few dollars in it, the fee to withdraw may be close to the value. In that case check the route's quoted fee in the portal before you confirm and decide whether to bridge or let it go; Sophon's guide does not promise any compensation for balances left behind. If you hold meaningful value, withdraw it and then park it somewhere with a longer life than a single-purpose chain. Tracking which networks you use, and when each one's support window ends, is a habit worth building: our rates page and activities page show where exchanges are running current campaigns if you decide to move assets onto a major venue.
What we could not verify
We could not read Sophon's own announcement post or its X account, so the November 25 date and the infrastructure shutdown wording rest on Cointelegraph's report. The migration guide we fetched states that no hard date is set, which may simply be out of date. We also did not find a statement of exactly when the chain itself stops producing blocks, as opposed to when infrastructure and websites go offline.
Quick answers
What is the Sophon deadline? November 25, 2026, per Cointelegraph's October 20 report, to withdraw assets and claim rewards before the mainnet shuts down.
Where do I withdraw? The official portal at claim.sophon.com, linked from Sophon's documentation.
Do I need to swap SOPH for a new token? No. SOPH is native to Ethereum; you only withdraw the bridged copy.
What about my Guardian NFT, vSOPH or staked SOPH? The guide says they are moved to Ethereum automatically.
Can I still deposit into Sophon? No. New deposits through the canonical bridge are disabled.
Can I use LayerZero to leave? No, Sophon was removed from LayerZero. Use the portal's routes, then LayerZero from Ethereum if needed.
What if I miss the deadline? Cointelegraph reports that assets left behind risk becoming permanently inaccessible, so do not wait.
