Why SUI Rose 57% in Four Weeks, and Why Samsung Wallet, Hashi and the $30 Million DATA Deal Have Not Pushed It Higher (October 2026)

6 min

The short answer

SUI closed at $1.1305 on Binance on 11 October 2026, up about 57% from $0.7209 four weeks earlier, but almost all of that gain came between 17 and 27 September. Since its $1.2640 closing high on 27 September the token has drifted about 11% lower, even as Sui announced three large pieces of news: USDC on Sui inside Samsung Wallet (8 October), a Hashi bitcoin-collateral mainnet with more than $500 million committed (8 October) and a $30 million Sui Foundation investment in the DATA Network (12 October). The likely reason is in the details: Samsung Wallet does not support the SUI token at all, and leverage has been leaving the market.

14 Sep$0.7209Starting point four weeks back
21 Sep$1.0427+16.2% in a day on $237M of volume, the heaviest day of the run
25 Sep$1.1949+17.8% in a day

8 Oct$1.0408−7.8% on the day of the Samsung and Hashi announcements; low $0.998
11 Oct$1.1305About 11% below the 27 Sep close

By our arithmetic, the move from 14 September to 11 October is +56.8%, while the move from the 27 September high to 11 October is −10.6%. In the early hours of 12 October SUI was trading near $1.12, little changed on the DATA news.

What Sui actually announced

Samsung Wallet and USDC (8 October). The Sui Foundation says Samsung Wallet selected Sui as its blockchain partner for USDC, starting with eligible Galaxy devices in the United States and expanding to other markets later. The post cites 82 million US Galaxy devices. Transfers use Sui's gasless stablecoin feature, live on mainnet since May 2026, so a USDC transfer costs nothing at the network level. Crucially, the FAQ in the same post says USDC is the only supported asset at launch, the SUI token is not supported in Samsung Wallet, and users do not need SUI to send USDC. The foundation also says Sui has processed more than $1 trillion in stablecoin transfer volume since August 2025.

Hashi mainnet (8 October). Announced at Sui Basecamp 2026, Hashi lets bitcoin stay on the Bitcoin network while it is used as collateral through Sui smart contracts: depositing BTC mints hBTC on Sui, and burning hBTC releases the bitcoin. The foundation says the phased mainnet begins this month with more than $500 million in committed capital from a coalition of more than 20 partners, and that Anchorage Digital joins as a day-one partner with tri-party custody and self-custody routes. Access opens gradually as partners finish integrations.

DATA Network joins Sui (12 October). The DATA Network and its Trace registry for rights-cleared AI training data are moving onto Sui, with Walrus as the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications. The DATA Network's own chain will be retired and the protocol will run natively on Sui; $DATA carries over one-to-one, with locked and vesting positions unchanged. The Sui Foundation is investing $30 million, which it says gives it the largest institutional stake in the network. Trace has registered more than 250 million contributions since June and processes over three million receipts a day on average, according to the post.

Why the news has not lifted the price

The biggest headline routes around SUI. In Samsung Wallet, users hold and send USDC, and the gasless design means they never need to buy SUI for fees. The integration is meaningful for Sui's network activity and stablecoin volume, but it creates no direct demand for the token from wallet users. The market's reaction on 8 October, a 7.8% fall, is consistent with traders reading it that way, although one day's move has many causes.

Hashi and DATA are early. Hashi's $500 million is described as committed capital for a phased launch, not deposits already live. The DATA deal is an investment by the foundation and a migration; Sui did not say how much on-chain activity it will add.

Leverage is unwinding. Binance data show SUIUSDT open interest rose from about $101 million on 13 September to a peak of about $171 million on 28 September, the day after the price high. By 12 October it was about $135 million, roughly 21% below the peak by our arithmetic. Funding has stayed small and mostly positive, with the 00:00 UTC settlement on 12 October at +0.008%. Binance's account ratio shows about 66% of SUIUSDT futures accounts net long on 11 October, so the crowd still leans long while open positions shrink.

What to watch next

  • Hashi deposits. Whether real BTC flows in once partners go live, and how fast.
  • Samsung rollout. When the feature reaches users and which markets follow the US.
  • Open interest. A renewed rise in open interest with positive funding would mean leverage is back; a further fall would point to a quieter market.
  • Contract checks for DATA. If you hold $DATA, follow only the DATA Foundation's official migration instructions; token migrations attract fake claim sites.

How to act on this

If you trade SUI, separate the news from the token: ask whether each announcement needs SUI to be bought or held. If you use futures, keep leverage modest, because SUI moved 16-18% in single days during this run, and check the funding board and liquidation tracker before holding overnight. Fees are the cost you control: OKX's standard perpetual fees are 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, and signing up with NexuAlpha's code nexu888 returns 40% of trading fees hourly; Bybit users can register with code 48553. Quick answers

Why did SUI go up? The steepest gains came on 21 and 25 September, before the October announcements; this article does not attribute those days to a single cause.

Does Samsung Wallet support SUI? No. Per the Sui Foundation's FAQ, USDC is the only supported asset at launch and the SUI token is not supported.

What is Hashi? Sui's bitcoin-collateral system: BTC stays on Bitcoin while hBTC is minted on Sui for use in lending and other applications. Mainnet rolls out in phases starting this month.

How much did Sui Foundation invest in DATA Network? $30 million, announced on 12 October 2026.

What happens to my $DATA tokens? The foundation says $DATA carries over one-to-one to Sui, with locked and vesting positions unchanged.

Limits

We could not verify what drove the 21 and 25 September rallies, when Samsung Wallet users will see the feature, how much of Hashi's committed capital is deposited, or the migration timetable for $DATA.
