Crypto perpetual platform comparison: Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid
Compare four derivative routes in one checklist: CEX futures accounts, wallet-connected Perp DEXs, options/perps specialist venues and GMX-style pool routes. Check published fees, funding, margin mode, liquidation rules, oracle route, collateral movement, region and wallet-signature risk before choosing the next step.

Choose the derivative route first
The right next step depends on account model: exchange account, wallet-connected perp, specialist options venue, or pool-based GMX route.
CEX account route
Use this path when you want an exchange futures account with internal risk controls, tiered fees, account eligibility and product permissions. Check region, identity, funding, margin mode and the current fee page before signup.
Checks- Region, KYC and product access
- VIP or account-tier fee conditions
- Funding, liquidation and withdrawal path
Wallet-connected Perp DEX route
Use this path to compare wallet-connected perpetual protocols. Inspect deposit or bridge flow, collateral custody, withdrawal path, oracle or index price, funding, liquidation and front-end availability before trading.
Checks- Collateral asset and network path
- Oracle, mark price and liquidation process
- Funding, bridge and front-end availability
Options / perps specialist route
Use this route when the question is product structure, settlement asset, options fees or portfolio margin rather than a general exchange account. Verify contract type, settlement currency, fee caps and liquidation documentation first.
Checks- Options, futures or perpetual contract type
- Settlement asset and margin model
- Fee caps, delivery fees and liquidation rules
GMX pool-based perp route
Use this path when the trade depends on pool liquidity, oracle pricing, price impact, borrowing and funding mechanics, network fees and wallet signature safety. Treat LP pool conditions as part of the trade, not as background detail.
Checks- Pool balance and price impact
- Borrowing, funding and network fees
- Wallet approval and signature safety
Perp DEX cost-field dictionary
Version 2026-09-15. A reusable schema for comparing venue mechanics. It does not publish live rates or choose a venue for the reader.
Use the 8 fields to record a Perp DEX route's fees, funding, collateral, margin, oracle and liquidation rules, then continue to the Hyperliquid vs dYdX comparison or venue profiles. It is a field checklist, not a live-rate feed, venue ranking or registration path.
The Wave48 dataset records all 24 required venue-field entries as source-backed known across Hyperliquid, dYdX, GMX and Aevo. The finding is that Perp DEX cost review still needs the full fee, funding, collateral, margin, oracle and liquidation stack, not a single static fee or live funding quote.
Open the 8 fields and comparison rules
Trading fee
The charge or rebate applied when an order fills. Record maker and taker rates, volume window, account tier and product scope separately.
Do not compare one advertised rate with another venue's base rate.Funding payment
A periodic transfer between long and short positions that helps align a perpetual contract with its reference market. It is separate from the trading fee.
Record direction, interval, formula, cap and the price input used by the venue.Spread and slippage
Execution cost created by the order book or liquidity available at the time of a trade. It changes with order size and market state.
Use the same notional size and timestamp; do not present it as a fixed fee.Collateral and settlement asset
The asset posted as margin and the asset in which profit, loss and funding are accounted. Asset conversion or depeg exposure can change effective cost.
Record accepted collateral, haircut or LTV, settlement asset and withdrawal route.Margin model
The rules for initial and maintenance margin and whether collateral is shared across positions through cross, isolated or portfolio margin.
Separate account mode, market tier and position-size effects.Oracle, index and mark price
Reference prices can serve different jobs: funding calculation, unrealized P&L, margin checks or liquidation. A venue may use more than one price construction.
Record each price source, update method and the decision that uses it.Liquidation and backstop
The process used when account equity falls below a maintenance requirement, including partial close, full close, insurance or backstop handling and possible deleveraging.
Record trigger price, maintenance rule, penalties, partial-liquidation behavior and final backstop.Transfer and network cost
The cost and operational risk of moving collateral into or out of the trading route, including network fees, bridge steps, withdrawal fees and settlement delay.
Map the complete funding and exit path instead of quoting only the trade fee.Open trader pain points and evaluation criteria
Risks and conditions to check
Check execution costs, account restrictions, contract permissions and exit conditions separately before choosing a route.
1. Comparing leverage while missing real execution cost
A perpetual platform is not priced by maker and taker fees alone. Funding, spread, slippage, liquidation price, withdrawal route and account tier all change the real cost. Split those items from official sources before choosing a venue path.
2. Mixing wallet perps with account-based futures
CEX futures accounts depend on identity checks, region, account tier and internal risk controls. Perp DEX routes depend more on wallet network, collateral, oracle, bridge and front-end availability. Both can serve perpetual traders, but the checklist is different.
3. Treating funding-rate carry as safe income
Funding direction can flip, while two-sided fees, transfers, margin use, liquidation and venue limits can absorb expected carry. Model worst-case conditions on both legs before opening cross-venue positions.
Published fees and funding sources
Check each venue's official fee table, funding-rate documentation, settlement cadence and account-tier conditions instead of treating one quoted fee as final cost.
Margin, liquidation and oracle route
Separate margin mode, maintenance margin, liquidation flow, oracle price and ADL behavior. For on-chain perps, also check collateral asset and bridge route.
Account, region and product eligibility
Before signup, confirm residence, identity verification, product permissions, funding route and account status. A public comparison cannot replace the official account flow.

For CEX futures accounts, compare Binance vs OKX or Bybit vs Bitget. For wallet perps, compare Hyperliquid vs dYdX. For options/perps specialists, check Deribit. For pool-based perps, check GMX and wallet approvals.

Actionable answers designed for zero ambiguity and immediate trading clarity.
Q1:What is a crypto perpetual platform, and what should be compared first?
Perpetual contracts have no fixed expiry. Compare each venue's funding, collateral, margin and liquidation documentation. Then check its official fees and access terms before opening an account or connecting a wallet; those values and eligibility must be verified for your intended venue.

Q2:Can Hyperliquid traders face socialized clawback or slippage?
Hyperliquid documents auto-deleveraging when an account or isolated position becomes negative: profitable positions on the opposite side may be closed according to ranking. This is position closure through ADL, not an indiscriminate cash-loss charge to every user. Its liquidation process also uses market orders, so order-book liquidity affects execution and slippage remains a risk. Review the official ADL and liquidation rules; neither mechanism removes trading risk.

Q3:Does funding-rate arbitrage eliminate risk?
No; Bybit's arbitrage documentation warns that partial fills can leave uneven exposure and liquidation risk, while market rebalancing can execute away from the intended price. Funding direction can also change, as Hyperliquid's funding documentation describes. Evaluate both legs, margin and execution costs, including how to close the positions, rather than assuming a neutral position will produce a profit.
