Bitcoin at $82K This Weekend: $231M Liquidated on Both Sides, Funding Near Zero, and What to Watch on Monday
The short answer
Bitcoin spent the weekend pinned around $82,000: at 20:43 SGT on Sunday 18 October our board showed BTCUSDT at $81,944, up 0.56 percent in 24 hours, with $5.1 billion of 24-hour quote volume on the Binance perpetual. The price barely moved, but the leverage underneath it did. In the same 24 hours Binance and OKX force-closed $230.7 million of positions, $129.6 million of them longs and $101.0 million shorts, which is the pattern of a range that punishes both directions.
Funding tells the same story. The next Binance BTC funding payment at 16:00 UTC was priced at 0.0100 percent, OKX at 0.0043 percent, both close to the neutral baseline, so neither side is paying up to hold. The last macro catalyst was Fed chair Kevin Warsh declining to signal further hikes on Friday, which pulled October hike odds to 15 percent according to CME FedWatch data reported by Cointelegraph. Below is what the liquidations board and funding board show, and what to check before US markets reopen on Monday.

The 24 hours in numbers
All figures are from the NexuAlpha market-events feed generated at 12:43 UTC on 18 October, which reads Binance and OKX public data directly.
Article table: scroll horizontally, or focus the table area and use the arrow keys.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| BTCUSDT last price | $81,944.3 |
| 24-hour change | +0.56% |
| 1-hour change | −0.11% |
| BTCUSDT 24-hour quote volume (Binance perp) | $5.09 billion |
| BTC open interest | $7.78 billion (+1.08% in 24 h) |
| ETHUSDT | $2,414.98 (−0.54%), open interest $5.54 billion |
| SOLUSDT / XRPUSDT / DOGEUSDT | $104.06 / $1.2957 / $0.07952 |
| 24-hour liquidations (Binance + OKX) | $230.7 million, 38,747 orders |
| Long vs short liquidated | $129.6 million vs $101.0 million |
| Largest single liquidation | $663,064 BTCUSDT short on OKX at 09:33 UTC |
Open interest rising 1 percent while price is flat means new positions are being added into the range, not taken off. That is why the forced orders keep coming on both sides: every push to the top of the range stops out shorts, every dip stops out longs, and the range holds.
Where the liquidations landed
By symbol, the 24-hour list was led by OKX XRPUSDT at $77.5 million, OKX BTCUSDT at $57.4 million, OKX SOLUSDT at $30.0 million, OKX DOGEUSDT at $29.7 million and OKX ETHUSDT at $28.2 million. XRP topping the list while its spot price moved 0.26 percent is the clearest sign of crowded leverage in a quiet tape.

Open →The last four hours before the snapshot (08:43 to 12:43 UTC) were one-sided: $75.1 million of shorts were force-closed against $9.1 million of longs, including that $663,064 BTCUSDT short on OKX at 09:33 UTC. The final hour then flipped back to longs, $597,815 against $459,190 in shorts, led by QUSDT, OKX ETHUSDT, AVAUSDT and TIAUSDT. The majors are not where the volatility is. The 24-hour movers list shows QUSDT up 45.2 percent on $1.57 billion of volume, APRUSDT down 40.3 percent, AVAUSDT up 33.8 percent, GTCUSDT up 12.8 percent, STRKUSDT down 11.1 percent and BTWUSDT up 10.2 percent. If you are trading those names with the leverage you would use on BTC, the liquidation board is telling you that is where the forced selling is happening.
What funding is saying
Binance explains funding as a periodic payment between long and short holders that anchors the perpetual to the spot index; positive rates mean longs pay shorts, negative rates mean shorts pay longs, and the exchange takes no cut. Binance's default interval is eight hours at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC, and its baseline interest component is 0.01 percent per interval. A BTC rate of 0.0100 percent on Binance is therefore exactly the baseline, with zero premium: the perpetual is trading in line with spot. OKX's 0.0043 percent is even flatter.

| Symbol | Binance rate (next 16:00 UTC) | OKX rate (next 16:00 UTC) |
|---|---|---|
| BTC | 0.0100% | 0.0043% |
| ETH | 0.0076% | 0.0092% |
| SOL | 0.0039% | 0.0042% |
| ZEC | 0.0100% | 0.0100% |
| NEAR | 0.0019% | −0.0010% |
| Q | 0.0050% | not listed |
| AGT | 0.0415% | not listed |
Nothing on the board is stretched. For a holder that means carrying a BTC long through the weekend cost 0.01 percent per eight hours on Binance, about $8 per $82,000 position per interval. For a trader it means there is no funding edge to harvest and no crowded side to fade on the majors; the premium is in the small caps, where AGT at 0.0415 percent is four times BTC. What moved the price, and what did not
Cointelegraph's Friday report sets the context: BTC bounced at $80,000 on Thursday after a weeklong sell-off in South Korean tech stocks, the KOSPI closed Friday at 5,668 (up 2 percent on the day, down 8.3 percent on the week), and Warsh told an IMF event that he does not prejudge meetings, which markets read as no hike in October. The 10-year US Treasury yield sat at 5.07 percent after touching 5.13 percent. None of that changed over the weekend, which is why BTC did not either.
The one weekend event that did produce forced selling was in stock perpetuals rather than crypto: about $51.6 million of chip-stock contracts were liquidated in ten minutes on Saturday night with US markets closed. It did not spill into BTC, but it is a reminder that the same exchanges now carry equity leverage around the clock.
What to watch on Monday
- US open at 13:30 UTC. Stock perpetual reference prices reconnect to live quotes; if chips gap, crypto risk appetite usually follows within the hour.
- The 16:00 UTC funding print. If BTC funding moves above 0.02 percent on Binance while price is still at $82,000, longs are crowding in without the price to show for it.
- Open interest versus price. A break of the range on falling open interest is short covering or long liquidation, not new money. The liquidations board updates every minute.
- Yields. Cointelegraph's sources flagged 5.13 percent on the 10-year as the level that stalled stocks last week.
If you are going to hold BTC exposure through that, the cheapest way is spot or low leverage on a venue where the funding you pay is near the baseline. OKX's BTC funding was the lowest of the two boards all weekend and its perpetual fees are 0.02 percent maker and 0.05 percent taker; the OKX profile has the current terms, and registering with code nexu888 adds the NexuAlpha fee rebate to the account. Bitget uses the same code, nexu888, with perpetual fees of 0.02 and 0.06 percent. Either way, size the position for the range to break against you first.
Quick answers
Why is bitcoin flat this weekend? No new macro input since Friday: Warsh gave no hike signal, yields and Korean stocks stabilised, and funding is at baseline, so neither longs nor shorts are being squeezed out of the $80,000 to $82,000 range.
How much was liquidated? $230.7 million on Binance and OKX in the 24 hours to 12:43 UTC on 18 October, $129.6 million longs and $101.0 million shorts.
What is BTC funding right now? 0.0100 percent per eight hours on Binance and 0.0043 percent on OKX for the 16:00 UTC payment on 18 October, both at or below the neutral baseline.
