Gold regains $4,000: compare the spot report with your XAU contract
The short answer
Spot gold crossed $4,000 an ounce on November 4. PANews reported $4,000.21 and a 1.78% daily rise at 13:54 SGT; Odaily had reported $4,000.11 and a 2.0% rise over 24 hours about two minutes earlier. For an exchange trader, the immediate task is to identify the contract and compare its own price fields before changing an order. PANews reported the spot threshold.
The fresh development is the return above $4,000, following our earlier report on gold at $3,950. A separate Gate contract snapshot collected for this report showed XAU_USDT trading, with a last price of 4,023.69 and a mark price of 4,023.68. Keep that later derivative snapshot separate from the earlier spot headline. Source: Gate public futures contract record, api.gateio.ws, opened November 4 SGT.

Two reports cross the same threshold with different percentage labels
Odaily published its report at 13:52:02 SGT. It attributed the quote to Gate's XAUUSD data and gave a price of $4,000.11 per ounce, up 2.0% over 24 hours. PANews published at 13:54 SGT, quoting spot gold at $4,000.21 and describing the rise as 1.78% on the day. Odaily's report identifies its price source and comparison window.
Both reports support the narrow statement that gold had crossed the $4,000 threshold. They do not supply an identical return series. The difference between the quoted prices is $0.10, calculated as $4,000.21 minus $4,000.11. That small price gap gives no reason to replace one publisher's percentage with the other's. The descriptions of the comparison periods differ, and the reports appeared at different times.
A reader copying the number into a trading journal should therefore retain the whole observation: publisher, instrument label, time, price and comparison window. Write “PANews: spot, $4,000.21, daily +1.78%” or “Odaily: Gate XAUUSD, $4,000.11, 24-hour +2.0%”. Combining the PANews price with Odaily's return creates a third observation that neither source published.
The short reports do not establish why gold rose. They do not identify a particular central-bank decision, inflation release or order that caused the move. The $4,000 crossing is sufficient to explain the news; attributing it to a macroeconomic catalyst would require a separate source. This article consequently examines the price comparison and the order checks that the verified quotes support.
What the exchange snapshot actually contains
Gate's official public contract record returned the exact name XAU_USDT, status “trading” and contract type “metals”. Its in_delisting field was false. Those fields establish an identifiable exchange product for this analysis. They do not establish that every account in every jurisdiction can use it. A reader should first look for that exact contract in the service their account provides.
In the contract response, the last price was 4,023.69, the mark price 4,023.68 and the index price 4,022.30. The record also supplied a quantity multiplier of 0.0001 and a funding interval of 14,400 seconds. That interval converts to four hours by dividing by 3,600 seconds per hour. Source: Gate's official XAU_USDT contract record, collected for this report on November 4 SGT.
The last-to-mark difference in that response was 0.01, calculated as 4,023.69 minus 4,023.68. The mark-to-index difference was 1.38, calculated as 4,023.68 minus 4,022.30. These are comparisons between named fields in one response. Calling the 1.38 difference a market premium for all gold trading would extend the observation beyond the evidence.
A second official response, the contract's ticker, returned last 4,023.40, mark 4,023.37 and index 4,021.77. Its 24-hour change was 2.49%. The requests were separate observations collected around 14:46 SGT. Preserve each response as a unit when checking arithmetic. The ticker's 2.49% describes that contract's window; it does not correct PANews's earlier spot percentage.

What to check on your Gate order
For the reader now looking at an order ticket, the useful comparison begins with the product name. The spot reports refer to gold per ounce. The official exchange response identifies XAU_USDT in the futures service. Record which of those two observations you are using before calculating the size or comparing a limit order with the news.
For example, subtracting the earlier PANews spot quote from the later contract last price gives 4,023.69 minus 4,000.21, or 23.48. That arithmetic mixes different times and product labels. It cannot establish a simultaneous gap available for a trade. A comparison intended to test an actual price difference needs observations of the specified instruments taken at matching times.
The ticker also contains separate highest-bid and lowest-ask fields. Read the current fields in the account's trading screen before deciding where to place a limit. A news report at 13:54 SGT supplies neither a present executable offer nor the quantity available at the reader's chosen price. Keep the historical quote in the journal and evaluate the proposed order from its own screen.
- On Gate, open the pending XAU_USDT order and check its direction, quantity and limit against the same contract's current quote.
- Check whether the order is still pending. If it has filled, use the fill record and actual position quantity for the multiplier calculation.
Put the multiplier next to the quantity
The Gate contract record lists a multiplier of 0.0001. An illustrative quantity of 10,000 contracts multiplied by 0.0001 gives one unit of underlying exposure. At the contract snapshot's mark price of 4,023.68, multiplying that unit by the price gives a marked notional of 4,023.68 USDT. This is arithmetic using the retrieved contract fields, not a description of any reader's position.
For a smaller worked example, 1,000 contracts times 0.0001 gives 0.1 unit. Multiplying 0.1 by 4,023.68 gives 402.368 USDT. The calculation explains why an order quantity needs its multiplier beside it: the quantity field alone does not tell the reader the marked value. Recompute with the multiplier and price currently shown for the exact product being considered.
Keep that exposure calculation apart from an account balance or margin amount. The source record does not show your account equity, margin mode or current positions. This article therefore does not assign a liquidation price or claim that a particular deposit is enough to support the illustrative quantity. Read those account-specific figures directly before confirming a change.
A position worksheet can use four labelled entries: contract name, contract quantity, multiplier and the named price field used for valuation. The multiplication can then be checked without relying on the article's headline. The Gate exchange profile provides an internal reference point when comparing the venue, while the calculation itself should use the product's current official specifications.
Keep a record you can reconstruct
Save the contract response time beside the news report time. If an order review later shows a different last price, the record can distinguish a changed quote from a mistaken product selection. For this event, the report times around 13:52–13:54 SGT and the exchange checks around 14:46 SGT belong to separate entries. Preserve the quoted currency in each entry as well: the news uses dollars per ounce, while the worked contract valuation uses USDT.
Four-hour funding is a schedule, not a locked cost
Both official responses showed a funding rate of zero at collection. The contract record's interval was four hours. These observations answer a narrow question about the retrieved state: the displayed funding input was zero and the configured interval was 14,400 seconds. They do not establish what a later settlement will charge.
If the next displayed rate changes, update the calculation from the rate and exposure relevant to that settlement. An illustrative zero rate multiplied by the 4,023.68 USDT marked notional gives zero. That arithmetic applies to the stated zero-rate example. It gives no basis to describe holding the contract through future settlements as permanently free.
Check the next funding time on the product screen when reviewing a position you intend to hold. Record the rate and its observation time together. For a broader view of displayed rates, use the funding board, then return to the actual contract and account before attaching any cost estimate to an order. This report supplies no account-specific fee schedule.
Quick answers
Did gold cross $4,000 on November 4?
Yes. PANews reported spot gold at $4,000.21 at 13:54 SGT. Odaily's earlier report put Gate's XAUUSD quote at $4,000.11 at 13:52:02 SGT. The reports agree on the threshold and give different percentage-window descriptions. Retain the original attribution when using either quote.
Was the gold move 1.78%, 2.0% or 2.49%?
Those figures belong to separate observations. PANews described a 1.78% daily spot move. Odaily described a 2.0% 24-hour move using Gate XAUUSD data. Gate's later XAU_USDT ticker returned 2.49% for its 24-hour change field. The source, timestamp and product determine which number belongs in the comparison.
Does the official response identify a tradable gold contract?
It returned XAU_USDT with status “trading” and contract type “metals”. That verifies the product record used here. Check whether your account actually displays the same product and its order controls before applying these calculations. The public response provides no individual eligibility decision.
What should I check after reading the threshold alert?
For a pending order, open that order and compare its symbol and limit with the exact contract. For an existing position, read its current quantity and multiplier, then inspect the named price fields and next funding time. Save the source time with the observation so a later review can distinguish the 13:54 SGT spot report from the subsequent exchange snapshots.
