OKX how to buy USDT: €1,000 got 1,114 USDT on spot and 1,107 on the cheapest SEPA P2P ad

8 min

The short answer

To buy USDT on OKX, verify your identity, then choose one of three routes: spot if you already hold euros, dollars or reais on OKX, P2P if you want to pay a merchant from your own bank, or the Buy page if you want to pay by card. At about 18:46 SGT on November 7, 2026 (10:46 UTC), €1,000 bought 1,113.96 USDT on the USDT-EUR spot book after the 0.1% taker fee, against 1,107.42 USDT from the cheapest P2P ad that accepted SEPA and fit that order.

What you keep depends on the seller's price far more than on the fee line. P2P is advertised at zero fee, yet the median ad that fit €1,000 priced USDT at €0.9395 and delivered about 1,064 USDT, which is about 50 USDT less than spot. The one condition on spot is a cash balance on OKX, and whether your account can fund one depends on your market.

What the routes delivered in our snapshot

We read OKX's public spot tickers and its public P2P ad list at about the same minute. Spot figures use the best ask and the 0.1% regular taker rate in OKX's fee table. P2P figures use the ad price with no OKX fee. None of these includes what your bank or payment app charges. An anonymous query can also differ from what your own account sees.

The arithmetic for the first row: €1,000 ÷ €0.8968 = 1,115.08 USDT, minus 0.1% (1.12 USDT) leaves 1,113.96 USDT. The P2P row is €1,000 ÷ €0.903.

Three things stand out in the raw list. The list returned 195 EUR ads, and 37 of the 92 that fit a €1,000 order accepted a SEPA method. One cheaper euro ad, at €0.900, only took Bank of Georgia, so we left it out of the SEPA line. The BRL list returned only 10 ads, and the cheapest of them, at R$5.32, had a fixed R$5,600 order size, so it did not fit R$2,000.

Dollar ads leaned toward regional methods. Payoneer, AirTM, ABA Bank and Wing Money were among the most common, and the cheapest ads that fit $1,000 used Bank of Georgia and Whish Money. If you cannot pay with the method an ad lists, its price does not apply to you.

What this means for you

  • Check the USDT received, because that number already includes the seller's margin and the fee.
  • Use spot if you can fund a cash balance cheaply and your market lists the pair.
  • Use P2P if you cannot fund a balance, and compare at least the top ads for your payment method.
  • Avoid the Buy page until you have read its order preview, because we could not price it.

Route 1: buy USDT on spot

Spot is an order book, so you pick an order type and price and pay a trading fee. OKX's buying guide describes it that way and says execution depends on your order and market liquidity.

  1. Fund your account with the cash currency your market supports. We did not test a euro, dollar or real deposit, and the fee or method available to you may differ. Brazilian readers can read our guide to OKX Pix deposits from R$5.
  2. Open the spot market for the pair, such as USDT-EUR. Availability varies, so a missing pair in your app means that route is closed for you.
  3. Buy with a limit or market order. OKX's instrument record for USDT-USD shows a minimum order size of 1 USDT.

Your 0.1% fee is the part our rebate can reduce. Our partner file lists a 20% share for OKX under code nexu888, settled hourly. On the €1,000 order, the fee is 1.12 USDT and 1.12 × 20% = 0.22 USDT comes back. P2P has no OKX trading fee, so there is no rebate on that route. Compare the OKX fee and sign-up page if you expect to keep trading after this purchase.

Route 2: buy USDT on P2P

P2P is a marketplace where other users set the price. OKX says there is no service fee, that you are trading with other verified users, and that it holds the seller's crypto until the seller confirms payment. It also says your payment provider may still charge you, and that trading can start from 1 USDT.

For a quick order, the OKX P2P guide gives this path in the app: P2P trading, Express, Buy, then enter the amount, pick USDT and choose a payment method. A preview screen locks the quote, typically for about 10 to 30 seconds. On the web the path is Buy crypto, P2P trading, Express, Buy.

To pick your own seller, go to Buy crypto, P2P trading, Buy, then filter by currency and payment method. Choose an ad, enter an amount inside its limit and confirm. Pay the merchant with the listed method. Select "I have paid" only after the money has gone, then upload the proof and wait for the release. OKX warns that marking an unpaid order as paid can get your account suspended, and that it cannot validate cash-in-person payments.

Check these before paying:

  • Your fiat must match your region. OKX says verified users can only use the fiat currency of their registered region for P2P. Users with Chinese nationality living overseas are not permitted to trade overseas fiat currencies there.
  • Your payment account must be yours. The P2P trading guidelines require an account registered in your full name that matches your OKX account.
  • Your USDT may be locked. The P2P guide says buying can trigger a T+N protection that restricts selling, withdrawals and DEX trading for 3, 7 or 15 days, with the exact period shown on the page. You can back out and place a new order if you do not want the lock. If you plan to withdraw straight away, read this screen first, because a cheap ad does not help if the coins sit for 15 days.
  • The timer counts. The guide says not to pay when an order is close to timing out, because the merchant gets the held crypto back when the timer reaches zero.
  • Keep the payment note empty if you can. The guidelines say to avoid words such as USDT, OKX or the order number in a transfer note, because they can delay the payment.

Scams that target this exact order

OKX has a specific warning about fake USDT sell ads posted from new accounts. The seller pushes you to WhatsApp, Telegram or Zalo, asks for extra payment outside the platform, cancels after getting the money and leaves you with no USDT and no refund. The warning signs it lists include fake "OKX Support" messages and sellers who claim their account is restricted and ask for help.

Stay in the in-app chat, because OKX treats it as evidence. If a seller does not release after you paid, raise a dispute from the order page. OKX says to allow up to 24 hours for a response.

An ad priced well under the spot rate deserves extra suspicion. In our snapshot, the euro spot ask was €0.8968 and no listed ad went below it.

Route 3: the Buy page and card payments

The Buy flow is the simplest screen. In the app, Simple mode uses Trade, Buy, and Exchange mode uses Trade, Quick, Buy. On the web, go to Buy and Sell, then Buy. Choose USDT, enter the amount and pick from the payment methods shown.

OKX says the available methods, limits and fees depend on your market, verification status, currency and amount, and that support cannot manually enable a missing method. The Tether buy page says a small processing fee applies to card purchases and that bank transfers cost less but take 1 to 3 business days. The page gives no percentage, and a live quote needs a login, so we did not price this route. Read the amount of USDT in the order preview and compare it with the table above.

If a card payment fails 3DS, OKX advises checking the Activity page for an order before retrying, because repeated attempts can create several temporary holds on your card.

Already holding another coin

Convert swaps one crypto for another at a quote. OKX's Convert explainer says it has no separate transaction fee or slippage, and that the cost sits in the difference between the quote and the spot price. Convert does not take fiat, so it cannot turn euros into USDT.

If you hold USDC, compare the Convert quote with spot. The USDC-USDT bid was 1.00100 at our check, so 1,000 USDC sold for 1,001.00 USDT before any spot fee.

Before you sign up elsewhere

If your main concern is what you pay on repeat trades, the rebate share matters more than this one purchase. Our partner file lists Bitget at 60% under code nexu888, settled daily, on a 0.1% spot fee: a $1,000 trade costs $1 and $0.60 comes back, against $0.20 on OKX. See the Bitget profile and our Bitget EUR P2P quote check.

What we could not verify

We could not open a current OKX page for USDT withdrawal fees by network; three guessed help addresses returned 404. Check the fee on the withdrawal screen and match the network to your destination. We did not price card checkouts or test any deposit. OKX's instrument record puts USDT-USD in fee group 17, and we could not confirm whether that group charges the 0.1% regular rate we used, so treat your order confirmation as the final figure.
