Silver rises 3.84% to $51: check your XAG contract

7 min

The short answer

Spot silver touched $51 an ounce, up 3.84% intraday, according to PANews on 2 November. An OKX XAG-USDT-SWAP snapshot at 00:43:28 Singapore Time (SGT) on 3 November showed a last price of 51.08 and a 24-hour opening price of 49.68, a calculated gain of 2.82%. For a trader moving from the silver headline to an exchange order, the first checks are the exact instrument, the comparison window and the quantity represented by each contract.

The spot report and the perpetual snapshot both show silver-related prices above 50, but they describe different observations. A spot headline cannot supply the entry price, contract size or account permissions for an XAG perpetual. PANews's silver report provides the underlying-market observation. The OKX figures below come from its public market ticker and instruments records, accessed during this review.

Three readings, three labels to retain

The PANews body says silver touched $51 with an intraday increase of 3.84%. Separately, Odaily reported silver at $50.822 an ounce, up 3.98% intraday, at 22:31 SGT on 2 November, attributing the numbers to Gate data. Our later OKX observation is for the specifically named XAG-USDT-SWAP contract. Keep those labels attached when comparing the numbers.

ObservationReported priceChange and comparison
PANews, 2 NovemberSpot silver touched $51/oz+3.84%, intraday
Odaily, 22:31 SGT, 2 NovemberSilver at $50.822/oz, citing Gate+3.98%, intraday
OKX, 00:43:28 SGT, 3 NovemberXAG-USDT-SWAP last 51.08+2.82%, calculated against open24h 49.68

The second observation comes from Odaily's market update. These readings establish that the named sources recorded a rise; they do not form a single synchronized price series. In particular, subtracting one outlet's price from the later perpetual quote would combine instruments and timestamps. That difference would not measure an executable trading spread.

A reader seeing 3.84% in a news report and 2.82% on a venue screen should compare the denominators before treating either as an error. PANews calls its move intraday. The OKX record supplies a field named open24h. The materials opened here do not establish that PANews used that same starting point. An apparently smaller percentage in the later snapshot therefore cannot, by itself, prove that silver gave back a particular portion of its earlier rise.

Recalculate the exchange number before using it

The OKX record gives last 51.08, open24h 49.68, high24h 51.38 and low24h 49.24. Using its own opening value, the arithmetic is (51.08 ÷ 49.68 − 1) × 100 = 2.82%, rounded to two decimal places. This calculation answers a narrow question: how far that contract's last recorded price stood above the opening value in the same record.

The quoted high and low imply a recorded range of 2.14 price units: 51.38 − 49.24 = 2.14. The last price was 0.30 below the high and 1.84 above the low. Those are differences within this snapshot, rather than a forecast or an instruction to buy at either boundary. The record does not give the order in which the high and low occurred, so it cannot reconstruct the path between them.

For a position review, write down which price you are actually comparing with your entry. Using 51.08 as the latest observation is a different calculation from using the 51.38 recorded high. If an order was placed after either observation, use the order's own execution record for the entry. The news price is useful context; your transaction record is the relevant input for reviewing that transaction.

Count XAG exposure from the contract value

The official instruments record identifies XAG-USDT-SWAP as a live, linear swap with settlement currency USDT. It gives ctVal of 0.01, ctValCcy of XAG and ctMult of 1. Its lot size is 1 and price tick is 0.01. Read those fields together before deciding what a quantity entered in an order represents. The quantity field and the silver price are separate inputs.

Here is a hypothetical size calculation using that specification and the observed 51.08 price. A quantity of 100 contracts represents 100 × 0.01 × 1 = 1 XAG unit of contract exposure. Multiplying by the snapshot price gives 1 × 51.08 = 51.08 USDT of reference notional. For 1,000 contracts, the same arithmetic gives 10 XAG units and 510.80 USDT of reference notional.

The result is a reference notional calculated from the recorded price, not the amount an account must deposit or the final cost of entering and closing the position. The opened ticker and specification do not establish an individual account's required margin, applicable fee or funding payment.

The unit check also makes a price-change example easier to read. With the hypothetical 100-contract quantity, a change from 51.08 to 50.08 produces a signed gross exposure change of 100 × 0.01 × 1 × (50.08 − 51.08) = −1.00 USDT for long exposure. A change to 52.08 gives +1.00 USDT by the same arithmetic. These are assumed price scenarios, with no claim that either price will occur and no fees or funding included.

If your screen displays quantity in a different unit, identify that unit before copying any example. A number such as 100 has meaning only with its label. Save the instrument name and quantity unit beside the intended order so that a later review does not confuse contracts, XAG exposure and USDT notional. The specification used here is for XAG-USDT-SWAP; it should not be copied into an unrelated silver product.

The recorded price tick also belongs in the calculation. At the hypothetical 100-contract size, a one-tick price change of 0.01 corresponds to 100 × 0.01 × 1 × 0.01 = 0.01 USDT of gross exposure change. At 1,000 contracts, it corresponds to 0.10 USDT. The price increment is unchanged; the amount associated with that increment changes with quantity. This calculation uses the official tick size and the assumed quantities, without describing any actual execution.

You can also compare the hypothetical size against the recorded range. Multiplying 100 × 0.01 × 1 × 2.14 gives 2.14 USDT; at 1,000 contracts it gives 21.40 USDT. These are range-based exposure illustrations. The ticker does not show that an account entered at the low and exited at the high. Do not put either amount into a realized-trade record unless actual executions support that record.

Use the rally to review an order, without inventing a catalyst

Neither the short PANews report nor the cited silver portion of Odaily's update verifies a reason for the rise. We therefore do not attribute it to a dollar move, interest-rate expectations or a particular investor flow. The price observations support a story about the move and the contract checks it prompts. Establishing a catalyst would require additional evidence connecting a named development to silver trading.

For an existing OKX XAG position, open the position record and read the full XAG-USDT-SWAP symbol and displayed quantity unit. Match the contract value to the specification above, then use your entry record and the currently displayed price to calculate the position's price exposure. If the account shows margin or a liquidation threshold, review those actual fields rather than deriving them from the news percentage or the hypothetical quantities in this article.

For an unfilled order, check the instrument, direction, quantity and submitted price together. Compare the order price with the current market display, rather than assuming a headline's touched price is still offered. If you intended a different size after reviewing the contract multiplier, assess the existing order before submitting another.

The public record's live status establishes the instrument's published state. It does not establish whether a particular reader can trade it. Open the relevant product in your own account and inspect the availability and terms shown there. The OKX profile can help with venue context; account-specific access remains a separate check. No residence-based eligibility conclusion follows from a public ticker response.

Keep funding and liquidations separate from the price report

The price snapshot contains a last price and a recorded range. It does not provide a funding rate or a liquidation total. Readers reviewing broader derivatives conditions can open our funding-rates board or liquidations page, then inspect the instruments and observation times those pages actually display. We have not inserted a silver funding figure or liquidation amount into this report.

Before comparing any additional number, retain its product label and time window. A funding observation for another asset does not answer the cost question for this XAG position. A liquidation figure covering a broader market does not identify liquidations in this contract. If the page you open does not contain the instrument needed for your check, leave that part of the comparison unanswered rather than substituting a nearby ticker.

Quick answers about the $51 report

Why use 3.84% rather than a different silver percentage?

The body of the PANews report says spot silver touched $51, up 3.84% intraday. That is the observation used in our headline and opening sentence. Odaily's 3.98% and the calculated OKX 2.82% retain their own source and window labels in the comparison above.

Does 51.08 mean an order will execute at that price?

It is the last price recorded in the OKX snapshot at 00:43:28 SGT. It is an observation for that time. Review the current product display and the actual execution record when assessing your own order; the saved snapshot does not establish a later execution price.

What should be saved before reviewing a silver position?

Keep the full instrument name, quantity unit, contract value, entry record and the timestamp of the comparison price. For the specification opened here, the reference calculation is quantity × 0.01 XAG × 1 × price. Obtain any margin, fee or funding inputs from the account and product information relevant to that position before adding them to the calculation.
