How to Deposit Money on Kraken: Bank Details, References and Arrival Checks

7 min

The short answer

To deposit money on Kraken, open Deposit in your account, choose the cash currency and an available funding method, then follow that method’s current instructions. For a manual bank transfer, send from your own bank using the displayed beneficiary details and any required reference; creating the deposit instructions does not itself move money from your bank.

Start with the currency you actually hold

Kraken’s cash-funding guide lists different routes for different currencies and locations. A USD account, a EUR account and a GBP account do not share interchangeable payment instructions. Start with the money you intend to send, then check what your verified Kraken account actually offers. The public funding table explains the possibilities; the authenticated deposit screen supplies the current details for your account.

This distinction matters when a search result says a method is available “worldwide.” Kraken attaches provider and regional restrictions to those descriptions. That label does not establish eligibility for every person or bank. If a method does not appear in your account, do not substitute another customer’s bank coordinates or a set of details copied from an old tutorial.

Use the Kraken profile to orient yourself before opening the exchange’s own funding page. If you are still at the account stage, the Kraken account and verification guide addresses that separate task. This article starts with preparing a cash deposit, rather than account registration or a blockchain transfer.

Follow the manual bank-transfer route

Kraken’s website instructions describe its Kraken interface and explicitly direct Kraken Pro users to a separate guide. Menu names can therefore differ between products. The documented sequence for the Kraken website is:

1. Sign in and select Deposit. The guide also describes access through Transfer, Assets and Portfolio. 2. Search for the cash currency you want to deposit and select it. 3. Choose the deposit method. For a manual bank transfer, choose that route and select the funding provider in the account section. 4. Read the bank information and the method’s additional instructions. 5. Open your own bank’s transfer service and initiate the payment using those exact details. 6. Keep the bank receipt, then check the funding transaction and cash balance in Kraken.

Copy and paste the beneficiary information where possible, as Kraken recommends, but still compare the pasted values with the current instructions before submitting at your bank. A saved payee can be convenient on a later deposit; it should not replace a fresh check that the currency, provider and beneficiary remain the ones shown in your Kraken account.

The guide treats an easy bank transfer such as Plaid ACH separately from a manual payment. Do not combine half the instructions from each route. A linked-bank authorization flow and a manually entered transfer can have different processing and withdrawal conditions even when both ultimately fund the same cash balance.

Check these details before authorizing the payment

Kraken’s bank-deposit checklist provides the practical checks below. The suggested comparison is our way of organizing those requirements, not a claim that every banking app has the same form.

Article table: scroll horizontally, or focus the table area and use the arrow keys.

CheckWhat to compareWhy it matters
CurrencyBank payment currency against the chosen deposit methodA wrong-currency transfer can be returned or incur extra charges
Account ownerSending-bank name against Kraken account namePersonal funding should come from the matching personal account
Account typePersonal or business on both sidesBusiness-bank deposits belong with a Kraken business account
BeneficiaryCurrent provider details against the bank paymentOld or unrelated coordinates do not establish a valid route
ReferenceExactly what the selected instructions requestIt helps identify the correct account where required
AmountMethod minimum and remaining account limitsA valid bank transfer can still fail funding requirements

For a joint bank account, Kraken says one of the named owners must match the Kraken account name. This is different from asking a friend to fund your account. Its checklist also warns against funding through third-party payment processors. Check the specific provider guidance rather than assuming that any service capable of sending a bank transfer is supported.

Where required and displayed in the instructions, Kraken asks for its public account ID as the payment reference: a 16-character identifier beginning with AA. Use the identifier shown in your own account. This reference is not a password, a one-time authentication code or a cryptocurrency wallet address, and it should not be invented from an example in an article.

Compare arrival time with withdrawal availability

Kraken’s public funding table, checked for this article, lists ACH via Plaid for US users as near-instant funding with a seven-day withdrawal hold. Its FedWire row for Dart Bank lists an estimated zero to one business day and no withdrawal hold, subject to the provider’s restrictions. These are examples of different routes, not evidence that either is available in your account.

For eligible EUR bank accounts, the table includes SEPA and SEPA Instant providers with different estimates. It also distinguishes SWIFT routes and their own minimums and charges. Choose the actual provider first, then read its row and linked instructions; “bank transfer” alone is too broad to tell you the arrival time.

A withdrawal hold is separate from an incoming transfer that has not arrived or a deposit being reviewed. Money may be available for trading while withdrawals remain restricted under a funding method’s rules. If immediate onward withdrawal is part of your plan, check that condition before paying rather than discovering it after the balance appears.

Processing times are estimates. Bank holidays, the sending bank and intermediaries can affect arrival. A bank’s “completed” status shows what that bank reports about the payment; it does not independently prove that Kraken has credited the correct cash balance.

Read the full cost before choosing a route

A “free” deposit entry in Kraken’s table describes Kraken’s receipt fee. The same official page says the sending bank or intermediary banks may charge, and a transfer may involve currency conversion. Compare the bank’s final payment preview with the funding method’s fee and currency requirements. Do not use a trading-fee table as a substitute for bank-transfer costs.

If you are deciding whether Kraken fits your next step, return to the Kraken profile and identify the product you intend to use after funding. Depositing cash does not place a buy order, establish a quoted crypto price or guarantee access to every product. Keep funding, conversion and trading as separate decisions so each has its own confirmation screen.

If the money has not appeared

First compare the receipt with the original deposit instructions: currency, provider, beneficiary, reference, amount and sending-account ownership. Next compare elapsed time with the selected method’s estimated business-day window. Preserve the receipt and transaction identifier; they are more useful for a support investigation than repeatedly making another payment.

Kraken’s checklist warns that multiple deposits of the same amount within 72 hours can be flagged as possible duplicates and delayed. That is a reason to investigate an existing transfer rather than retrying it blindly. Do not interpret the warning as a way to bypass review by changing payment amounts.

If the expected window has passed, use Kraken’s official support route from the authenticated account or support site. Provide the relevant transaction evidence through that route. Do not send account credentials, authentication codes or bank-login details to someone who approaches you after a public complaint.

Quick answers

Does clicking Deposit take money from my bank?

For the manual route, no. Kraken’s guide tells you to initiate the transfer through your own bank after viewing its instructions. Linked-bank flows have their own authorization steps.

Can I send a different currency to the same bank details?

Do not assume so. Kraken requires the transfer currency to match the selected funding method and warns of returns or additional costs for a mismatch.

Are deposits always instant and free?

No. Availability, minimums, fees, estimated processing and withdrawal holds vary by method. Your bank may also charge even where Kraken lists no receipt fee.

Can I deposit physical cash or a cheque into the listed US account?

Kraken says it does not support domestic US cheque deposits and instructs users not to deposit cheques or physical cash directly into its bank accounts or addresses. A cash-currency funding page is not an invitation to make a physical cash deposit.

What remains account-specific?

This review did not access a private Kraken account or execute a payment. Your available methods, remaining limits, beneficiary details and any active review must be checked in your account. If you choose to create a Kraken account, the public NexuAlpha partner feed lists referral code 7f97gkqw; that identifier does not change bank-deposit eligibility or confirm a reward.
