ARK files to launch 14 new ETFs: its tokenization fund reaches Ether and SOL only through swaps, with fees and tickers still blank

8 min

The short answer

ARK ETF Trust filed a preliminary prospectus with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on November 6, 2026, covering 14 new thematic ETFs, including the ARK Tokenized Market Infrastructure ETF. Nobody can buy them yet. The filing asks to take effect 75 days after filing, which by our count is January 20, 2027, and the ticker, management fee and expense lines are still blank.

If you hold ETH or SOL, read how the tokenization fund gets its exposure. It says it "will not invest directly in any digital assets" or in US-listed exchange-traded products, so its only route to Ether and Solana is a total return swap that references such a product. On OKX, ETH traded at 2,245.43 USDT and SOL at 89.89 USDT at about 18:45 SGT on November 7 (10:45 UTC), up 0.24% and down 0.29% over 24 hours.

What ARK actually filed

The document is a Form N-1A amendment filed under Rule 485(a)(2), labelled "Subject to Completion" and dated November 6. PANews reported it on November 7. ChainCatcher carried the 75-day timing and the fund list the same day. The grouping below is ours; the fund names are ARK's.

AI and computingNeoclouds; Frontier AI Labs; AI Agents; Agentic Cyber Defense; Orbital Data Centers; AI Factory
RobotsRobotaxis; Humanoid Robots & Physical AI; Brain Computer Interfaces & Surgical Robotics
HealthLongevity; Peptides; Functional Cures

Two of the 14 touch crypto directly. The tokenization fund is the obvious one. The Neobanks fund also counts "crypto-native financial platforms" among its targets, next to licensed neobanks and buy-now-pay-later lenders, and says it generally excludes diversified legacy banks and traditional payment networks. It expects to use total return swaps as its main route too.

The blanks tell you how early this is:

Counting 75 days from November 6 gives January 20, 2027. Treat that as the earliest date on the current form, because the same cover page has a box for an amendment that sets a new effective date.

How the tokenization fund is built

The fund is actively managed and says that under normal circumstances at least 80% of its assets will follow its "Tokenized Market Infrastructure Companies Strategy". That covers two things.

The first is companies ARK believes are building the rails for tokenized assets: tokenization platforms, stablecoin issuers, exchanges and brokerages, custodians and settlement networks. The second is US-listed exchange-traded products that give exposure to the coins of networks used to settle tokenized assets. The filing's examples are Ether and SOL.

Four details change how you should read the headline.

Swaps come first. The fund "expects to gain exposure" primarily through total return swap agreements. It will also buy some equities directly and may hold private equity and restricted securities.

Cash counts toward the 80%. US government securities, money market instruments and other short-term fixed income are counted inside the 80% policy, so that figure is not a floor on tokenization companies alone.

The portfolio can be narrow. The fund is non-diversified and can hold micro-cap through mega-cap names in developed and emerging markets. Its 25% concentration language reads "[financials or information technology]", again in brackets.

No company is named. We searched the filing for Coinbase, Robinhood, Tether and BlackRock and got zero hits. "Circle" appears once, inside the name of an unrelated fund trust. Any list of likely holdings you see today is someone's guess.

Why this is weaker for ETH and SOL than it sounds

A spot Ether ETF holds the coins behind its shares. This fund holds a contract with a swap counterparty, and that contract pays according to the return of an ETF-like product. The filing gives no target size for the fund and no split between companies and coin-linked products.

So nobody can read a coin-buying figure from this document. Whether a swap dealer would hedge with ETF shares, with futures or partly not at all is not stated. Our reading, and it is only that: treat this as a filing for a company-focused thematic fund with an optional crypto sleeve, and do not count it as a new source of spot demand.

The filing's own risk text is blunt about the structure. Its blockchain section warns of competing technologies, cyber incidents and forks. It says total return swaps magnify the portfolio's exposure, that the counterparty might default, and that swaps "can have the potential for unlimited losses". It adds that a coin-linked product may trade at a discount to net asset value, and that the fund's swap exposure would typically fall in value when it does.

Context from this week points the same way. Spot Ether ETFs lost a net $93.19 million on November 6, the same day ARK filed. A registration for a future product does nothing to those flows.

What the market showed

We read OKX public market data at about 18:50 SGT on November 7. November 7 is a Saturday, so the US stock market was closed and the three stock-linked contracts below were trading without a cash market behind them. We have no evidence linking any of these moves to the filing.

Article table: scroll horizontally, or focus the table area and use the arrow keys.

OKX instrumentLast (USDT)Change vs 24h earlier24h volume, about (USDT)
ETH perpetual2,244.66+0.29%3,350 million
COIN perpetual134.20-3.08%8.19 million
HOOD perpetual81.18+0.98%2.97 million
CRCL perpetual67.55-2.74%32.92 million

Volume is our arithmetic: OKX's 24-hour base volume multiplied by the last price. On those figures the ETH perpetual traded about 409 times as much as the COIN perpetual ($3,349.64 million ÷ $8.19 million).

We picked those three stock contracts because their companies, Coinbase, Robinhood and Circle, fit the filing's labels for an exchange, a brokerage and a stablecoin issuer. That match is our reading. ARK has not said it will own any of them.

Separately, ChainCatcher reported on November 7 that Coinbase chief executive Brian Armstrong said he supports tokenizing the company's stock so that more people can own it. We read this through that report and did not open his original post. Two earlier stories give the other side of the theme: DTCC's launch with 34 eligible securities and the 26 companies reported to object to OKX/ICE stock tokens.

What this means for you

  • Avoid hunting for this ETF yet. There is no ticker to search and the prospectus says the shares cannot be sold until the registration is effective. A token, presale or "early access" page using one of these fund names is not an offer under this document, so close it.
  • Check your holding cost if your idea is ETH or SOL. OKX's current funding rate was 0.0042% on the ETH perpetual and 0.0007% on the SOL perpetual, per eight-hour period. On a $10,000 long, that is about $0.42 and $0.07 for the period at those rates, and rates change. Compare venues on our funding rates board before opening a position.
  • Use limit orders if your idea is the listed companies. A COIN perpetual on OKX gives you price exposure in USDT, without a share or a vote. OKX's funding rate on it read 0% at our check. With about 8 million USDT of daily volume, size the position for a thin book, especially at a weekend. Our tokenized stocks hub and COIN page separate token products from perpetuals.
  • Review your trading cost before you size. Our partner file lists OKX perpetual taker fees at 0.05% and a 20% share under code nexu888, settled hourly. A $10,000 trade costs $10,000 × 0.05% = $5 in fees, and $5 × 20% = $1 comes back. That applies to the fee on one trade, not to the trade amount. The OKX fee and sign-up page has the current numbers, and our rates table compares venues.

What to watch next

The next useful document is an amendment that fills in the tickers, the fees and the bracketed text. Three lines matter most for crypto readers: the management fee, whether the Cboe listing is confirmed, and any language on how much of the fund may be coin-linked.

Watch January 20, 2027 as the date on the current form, and look for a filing that moves it. Once a fund trades, its published holdings will answer the question this document leaves open, which is how much of it is Ether and SOL exposure at all.

What we could not confirm

We did not find a statement from ARK explaining the filing, and we could not confirm that all 14 funds will launch. The filing gives no asset target, no swap counterparty and no planned holdings. We do not know whether SEC staff have commented.

Quick answers

Can I buy the ARK Tokenized Market Infrastructure ETF now?

No. The prospectus is preliminary and says the securities may not be sold until the registration is effective. Its ticker is blank.

When could it start trading?

The form asks to take effect 75 days after the November 6 filing, which we count as January 20, 2027. That date can move, and effectiveness alone does not set a first trading day.

Will the fund hold Ether or SOL directly?

No. The filing says it will not invest directly in digital assets or in US-listed exchange-traded products. Its swaps may reference products that give exposure to Ether, Solana and similar network coins.

Does the filing name Coinbase or Circle as holdings?

No. Coinbase does not appear in the document, and "Circle" appears only inside the name of an unrelated fund trust. It describes categories such as exchanges and stablecoin issuers.
