How to Buy Tether (USDT) on Binance: Card, P2P or Bank Deposit, Step by Step (October 2026)

7 min

The short answer

To buy Tether on Binance, verify your identity first, then pick one of three routes: Buy Crypto with a Visa or Mastercard card (fastest, but your bank may add a fee), Binance P2P (pay another user in your local currency while Binance holds their USDT in escrow), or deposit local currency by bank transfer and buy on the USDT spot market where a pair such as USDT/MXN or USDT/TRY exists. Once USDT is in your account, keep it in the Funding or Spot wallet, or send it out on the network your wallet supports. At 02:51 SGT on 23 October 2026, one USDT cost 18.70 Mexican pesos on Binance's USDT/MXN spot pair and the cheapest P2P seller asked 18.65 pesos, so the route you choose changes what you pay.

Before you start: the one requirement every route shares

Binance's identity-verification guide says all new users must complete the [Verified] level before they can deposit or trade. Existing accounts that never finished it are switched to "Withdraw Only". Verification is done under Account > Identification > Get Verified: you choose your country of residence and document type, upload both sides of the ID, pass a liveness check with your camera, and confirm personal details that must match the document exactly, because they cannot be changed afterwards.

P2P adds one more condition: Binance's P2P guide asks for at least one two-factor authentication method, such as Google Authenticator, to be switched on before the first order. If you plan to use P2P, set that up while you wait for verification.

If you do not have an account yet, our Binance exchange profile lists the current fees and account rules in one place.

Route 1: buy USDT with a card

This is the quickest route for small amounts. According to Binance's card guide:

  1. Log in and open Buy Crypto.
  2. Choose your currency, enter how much you want to spend, and pick Card (VISA/Mastercard). The page shows how much USDT you will receive.
  3. Add a card the first time. Binance says you may be asked to wait 24 hours if you try to link too many cards at once, and you can link up to five cards in total.
  4. Check the payment details and fees, then confirm. The quote can be recalculated automatically before you confirm.
  5. Approve the one-time password from your bank if asked. The USDT arrives in your account shortly after.

Binance also accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay. Its card currency list covers 50 currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, BRL, MXN, TRY, COP, IDR, PHP, VND and ZAR.

Two cost warnings come straight from Binance's own FAQ. First, some banks treat crypto purchases as "quasi-cash", which can add a separate charge from your bank. Second, the amount of USDT you receive depends on both the card fee and the conversion rate, so compare the final USDT amount, not just the headline price. Failed purchases are refunded to the card, but the refund can take a few days.

Route 2: buy USDT on Binance P2P

P2P lets you pay another Binance user directly by bank transfer or a local payment app, and Binance locks the seller's USDT in escrow as soon as you place the order. The app guide mentions more than 700 payment methods. The steps, from Binance's P2P guides:

  1. Open Trade > P2P on the website, or Add Funds > P2P Trading in the app.
  2. Choose Express (the system matches you with the best available price) or P2P (you pick a specific advertiser).
  3. Select USDT, your currency and payment method, then enter the amount. Read the seller's terms before you place the order.
  4. Pay the seller outside Binance using the details shown in the order. Only after paying, tap Transferred, Notify Seller.
  5. The seller confirms the payment and releases the USDT to your Funding wallet. If it does not arrive in the stated time, use Appeal.

Rules worth remembering: cancelling three orders in one day suspends buying for the rest of that day, you can only have two open orders at a time, and you should never cancel an order after paying unless the seller has refunded you. Our Binance P2P guide walks through escrow and appeals in more detail.

Here is what the P2P market looked like when we checked it (Binance P2P public search, 18:51 UTC on 22 October, buy side):

The cheapest P2P ad was slightly below the spot price in Mexico and Argentina and slightly above it in Colombia. Prices move by the minute, so check both before you buy.

Route 3: deposit local currency and buy on the spot market

Where Binance supports a bank deposit in your currency, you can fund the account and trade a USDT spot pair. At 18:51 UTC on 22 October, Binance's public market data showed USDT/TRY at 49.60, USDT/BRL at 5.0373, USDT/ARS at 1,647.30, USDT/COP at 3,156 and USDT/MXN at 18.696. The standard spot fee for a regular account is 0.1% for both maker and taker orders.

Mexico is a good example of how this works. Binance's MXN guide says you open Add Funds > Deposit MXN, choose Bank Transfer (SPEI), complete CURP verification, create a Medá account if you do not have one, and send pesos to that account. The deposit should be processed within 30 minutes. The account you send from must be in your own name, with a taxpayer number matching your Binance verification, and the monthly deposit limit is 5,000 USD at Level 1, 15,000 at Level 2 and 40,000 at Level 3.

Already hold crypto? Deposit it and swap

If you already have BTC, ETH or another coin, you can deposit it and sell it for USDT on a pair such as BTC/USDT. Binance's deposit guide stresses one point above all: choose the same network on Binance as on the platform you are sending from. TRC20 means TRON, BEP20 means BNB Smart Chain and ERC20 means Ethereum. Sending on the wrong network can mean the funds cannot be recovered. Our USDT withdrawal fee comparison shows what each network costs when you later move USDT out.

A note for readers in the EU

Binance's guides carry a notice that, under MiCA, unauthorised stablecoins are subject to restrictions for users in the European Economic Area. If you live in the EEA, you may not see USDT purchase options at all; our explainer on ESMA's non-MiCA stablecoin deadline covers what that means for USDT you already hold.

Getting fees back on the trades that follow

Buying USDT is usually the first step before trading other coins, and fees add up on every trade after that. If you are opening a Binance account now, registering through nexualpha.com/go/binance with referral code 11350287 returns 25% of your trading fees automatically. On 10,000 USDT of spot volume at 0.1%, that is 10 USDT in fees and 2.5 USDT back. The Binance exchange profile shows the current fee tiers.

Quick answers

Is buying USDT with a card on Binance instant? Usually within minutes after your bank approves the payment, but the first card link can take up to 24 hours if you add several cards at once.

What is the cheapest way to buy USDT on Binance? It depends on your currency. In our check, the cheapest P2P ad beat the spot pair in Mexico and Argentina but not in Colombia. Card purchases are often the most expensive once bank charges are included.

Do I need KYC to buy USDT on Binance? Yes. Binance requires the [Verified] level for deposits and trading, and P2P also needs two-factor authentication.

Where does my USDT go after a P2P purchase? To your Funding wallet. Move it to Spot if you want to trade it.

Which network should I use to send USDT out? The one the receiving wallet supports. TRC20, BEP20 and ERC20 addresses are not interchangeable.
