PancakeSwap "The Flip" Vote: LP Fee Share to 88% and CAKE Emissions Cut 69%, but Early Votes Run Against It

5 min

The short answer

PancakeSwap is voting until 24 October 2026 on "The Flip", a proposal that would raise liquidity providers' share of swap fees on v3 and Infinity pools to 88%, from about two-thirds today, and cut daily CAKE emissions by about 69%, from 22,500 to 7,000 CAKE. Traders would pay the same fees; LPs would keep more of them. But in the first hours of voting the proposal was losing heavily: at 16:50 UTC on 21 October, the official Snapshot page showed about 940,900 votes against and 22,200 for, with one address casting about 765,600 of the votes against.

What The Flip changes

The proposal was posted by "The Kitchen", PancakeSwap's core team, on the protocol's official Snapshot space (cakevote.eth). It covers every v3 fee tier and every Infinity pool on all 11 chains PancakeSwap supports: BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Solana, Robinhood, Monad, Arc, zkSync, Linea and opBNB. The older v2 pools are not affected because their fees are hard-coded.

v3 0.25% and 1.00%68%88%12%
v3 on Solana84%88%12%
Infinity67%88%12%

The remaining 12% protocol fee goes to the treasury, and the non-stablecoin part of it would still be used to buy back CAKE. One detail matters for existing Infinity pools: their LP fee was fixed when each pool was created, so the change lowers the total swap fee instead. The proposal's own example is a 1% pool that becomes about 0.76%, with 0.67% going to LPs and about 0.091% to the protocol.

What it means in money

The proposal puts the gain for LPs at about $62 million a year, based on 2025 volume, once fully rolled out. Per $1,000 of swap fees a pool generates, LPs on v3 0.05% pools would keep $880 instead of $660, a rise of about 33%. On Solana, where the LP share is already 84%, the gain is small: $40 per $1,000, about 5%.

For CAKE holders, the bigger change is supply. Emissions would fall in two steps:

  1. Step 1: starting in November 2026, within two weeks of approval, chains switch one per week over about three months, and emissions drop from 22,500 to 11,000 CAKE a day.
  2. Step 2: about 12 months later, when CAKE reaches the 20% supply reduction target set in Tokenomics 3.0, the last chains switch and emissions settle at 7,000 CAKE a day.

That is 15,500 fewer CAKE minted every day in the end state, about 5.7 million a year. The remaining 7,000 a day would go to "the Pantry", a growth fund for marketing, partnerships and new-pool liquidity. The proposal says total supply has already fallen 11.5%, from 372,837,045 CAKE in April 2025 to 329,915,408 now, against a target of about 298 million by 2030. The rollout starts with the chains that contribute least to CAKE burns, so the main burn sources keep running until the final switch.

Why liquidity is already moving

The market reacted before the vote opened. According to DefiLlama data cited by Cointelegraph, PancakeSwap's total value locked rose almost 19% in a week, from about $2.02 billion on 14 October to $2.4 billion on 21 October; our own check of DefiLlama's public API at 16:50 UTC on 21 October returned $2.408 billion. Most of the growth was in v3 pools, where TVL more than doubled to about $739 million from $336 million. PancakeSwap handled about $4.67 billion of BNB Chain DEX volume in seven days, roughly 71% of the network total.

CAKE itself barely moved: it traded at $2.264 on Binance and Bitget at 16:50 UTC, up about 2% on the day. The changes are a liquidity story first and a token story second.

Why the early vote matters

Snapshot votes are weighted by voting power, not by the number of wallets. At our check, 15 addresses had voted. The top address alone cast about 765,600 votes against; the second-largest cast about 130,000 against. The largest vote in favour was about 20,900. With three days left, a few large holders can still swing the result either way, but on these numbers the proposal would fail if voting ended now. The proposal does not say what happens after a rejection, and it would be guesswork to assume a revised version.

What to do if you provide liquidity or hold CAKE

  • LPs on v3 or Infinity: do nothing yet. If the proposal passes, the higher share applies automatically to existing positions as each chain switches; there is nothing to claim, stake or lock. Be wary of any site asking you to "migrate" a position for The Flip.
  • LPs chasing the TVL jump: the extra fee share is not live, and it arrives chain by chain over months. A position opened today earns today's split.
  • CAKE holders: the vote decides how fast new CAKE is minted. Follow the result on the official Snapshot page and pancakeswap.finance/voting, not on social posts.
  • Traders: swap fees stay the same. The argument is that deeper pools reduce price impact and sandwich attacks over time.

PancakeSwap also lists Binance's tokenized US stocks (bStocks) on BNB Chain, so its liquidity matters for on-chain stock trading as well; our tokenized stocks hub compares where those trade.

How to act on this

If you would rather hold CAKE than run an LP position, buying it on a centralised exchange avoids gas, approvals and impermanent loss. Bitget lists CAKE/USDT spot; you can sign up with code nexu888 through our Bitget page, and check its spot fees on the Bitget exchange profile before you trade.

Quick answers

What is PancakeSwap The Flip? A governance proposal to raise the LP share of swap fees on v3 and Infinity pools to 88% and cut CAKE emissions from 22,500 to 7,000 a day in two steps.

When does the vote end? At 08:07 UTC on 24 October 2026 (16:07 SGT), on PancakeSwap's Snapshot space cakevote.eth.

Will swap fees go up for traders? No. Fee tiers stay the same. On existing Infinity pools the total fee actually falls, because the protocol takes less.

Does v2 change? No. v2 fees are hard-coded and v2 remains the main CAKE burn engine, sending 23% of swap fees to burn.

Is the proposal passing? Not on early numbers: about 940,900 votes against and 22,200 for at 16:50 UTC on 21 October, with three days of voting left.

When would it start? In November 2026, within two weeks of approval, one chain per week.
