Is OKX Allowed in the US? Which States OKX US Serves, Its Licenses, KYC and Funding Rules (October 2026)
The short answer
Yes, OKX is allowed in the US, but only through OKX US, the platform run by OKX INC., a FinCEN-registered money services business (NMLS #1767779) that holds state money transmission licenses. It does not serve residents of New York, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands or the U.S. Virgin Islands, and its US terms say service is limited to approved states and territories, so whether you can open an account depends on where you live.
OKX's US licenses page, updated on 15 September 2026, lists 45 jurisdictions with a license entry: 43 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The US terms of service were updated again on 25 October 2026. Everything below comes from those pages and OKX's US help center, read on 25 October 2026.

Who runs OKX for US customers
OKX's US licenses page states that the OKX digital asset trading platform for United States customers is provided by OKX INC. That company is registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money services business and lists its licenses on the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System under NMLS #1767779. The footer of every OKX US page gives a San Francisco address on Sansome Street.
Two points in the US terms matter for what you can and cannot do:
- It is a spot exchange first. The terms describe the service as an online digital asset trading account and a platform for spot trading, which may facilitate margin lending where that is available and permitted. OKX acts mainly as a matching venue between users rather than the seller.
- No securities. The terms say OKX is not registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission and does not offer securities services in the United States or to US persons.
The OKX US website menu also shows futures, TradFi, events and earn products, but the terms add that certain features may or may not be available depending on your location. Treat anything beyond spot buying and selling as something to confirm inside the app for your state before you plan around it. For how OKX's global platform compares, see our OKX exchange profile.
Which states OKX US serves
The licenses page names the excluded places outright: New York, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Residents there cannot use OKX US at this time.
It then lists license entries for these 45 jurisdictions, each marked "Token-to-token, USD-to-token":

Six states appear in neither list: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. The page does not say they are excluded, and it does not show a license for them either. If you live in one of those states, the sign-up flow is the only reliable answer; do not fund an account until it confirms your state is supported.
A few license entries carry their own caveats. OKX's page notes that its Alaska, Louisiana, Tennessee and Virginia money transmission licenses do not cover the transmission of virtual currency, and Florida's regulator states that granting the license is not an endorsement of digital currencies. OKX still lists those four states with token-to-token and USD-to-token service; the notes tell you what each state license does and does not cover if you ever need to file a complaint.
Who can open an account
The US terms and the US identity verification guide set these conditions:
- Age 18 or older. Under-18s cannot sign up.
- Not on a sanctions list such as OFAC's SDN list, and not a resident of a jurisdiction where using the service is unlawful.
- A resident of an approved state or territory. The terms say the content of the agreement follows the laws of the state where you reside.
- One of the accepted IDs: a driver's license, a state-issued ID card or a passport. Temporary or paper IDs, including temporary driver's licenses, are not accepted.
- A selfie to match your face to the ID, and a residential address. If you moved since your ID was issued, OKX may ask for proof of address such as a W-2, 1099 or 1040 form, a bank statement, a pay stub, a rental agreement, a utility bill or certain government letters. A letter or package sent to you does not count.
OKX's US beginner guide says verification usually takes a few minutes to submit and up to 24 hours to complete; if more information is needed, OKX contacts you by email.
How funding works on OKX US
Article table: scroll horizontally, or focus the table area and use the arrow keys.
| Method | What OKX US says |
|---|---|
| ACH bank transfer | Supported; for eligible users funds may be usable immediately, but withdrawals of those funds and of crypto bought with them can be held for up to 10 business days or longer depending on your risk profile |
| Domestic wire | Listed in the US beginner guide as a USD deposit option |
| Debit card | Available to eligible users; crypto bought this way may face withdrawal limits or cooling-off periods, and chargebacks are debited from your account |
| Crypto deposit | OKX says it charges no fee to deposit crypto; withdrawals carry a network fee shown on the withdrawal page |
The bank account you deposit from must be in the same name as your verified OKX account. OKX's terms say customer USD is held in segregated custodial accounts at licensed third-party banks for the benefit of users, and the same terms remind US users that digital assets are not covered by deposit insurance or securities investor protection.
OKX US versus OKX global
OKX's main global platform is a different service. Its risk and compliance disclosure lists "parts of the United States of America and its territories" among restricted locations, alongside countries such as Canada, Japan and Hong Kong. In practice, a US resident should use OKX US, and a non-US resident uses OKX's global site, which carries the wider product range covered on our OKX profile and in our Binance vs OKX comparison.
If you are comparing venues across regions, our Kraken, OKX and Bybit availability map shows where each one operates, and our guide to OKX Shield's US launch explains the account-takeover cover US users need to switch on.
How to act on this
If you live in a supported US state, sign up on OKX US directly, finish identity verification before you send money, and start with a small ACH deposit so you learn how the withdrawal hold applies to your account. If you live outside the US, you can open an account on OKX's global platform with code nexu888; our registration walkthrough shows where to enter it.
What we could not verify
- Whether OKX US accepts residents of California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, Utah or Wyoming; the public pages are silent on those six states.
- Which non-spot products are switched on for each state; the US terms only say features vary by location.
- Whether a global-platform invite code applies on OKX US.
